CLASS SUMMARY:

Incumbents are responsible for supervising students utilizing street intersections to ensure safety and compliance with traffic laws.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The Crosswalk Guard is a stand alone classification. The Crosswalk Guard is distinguished from other classifications by its responsibility for supervising students utilizing street intersections.

1.

Supervises children crossing street intersections; maintains safe distance of children from traffic while waiting for motor vehicles to come to a stop.

Places and removes rolling signs at crossing intersections.

Reports violations of student behavior and/or motor vehicles to the office; alerts office of incidents requiring emergency response or administrative assistance.

Knowledge (position requirements at entry):

Knowledge of:

·       Applicable traffic laws;

·       Safety procedures and guidelines.

 

 

Skills (position requirements at entry):

Skill in:

·       Monitoring and redirecting children;

·       Assisting children crossing streets;

·       Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

 

Training and Experience (position requirements at entry):

Ability to read and write in order to communicate and receive instruction, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. Incumbents must complete crossing guard training and participate in additional training classes.

 

Licensing Requirements (position requirements at entry):

None Required.

 

Physical Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require: talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

 

Incumbents may be subjected to fumes, extreme temperatures, and intense noises.

 

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
