K-2 Classified Instructional Assistant Early Literacy Grant

JOB GOAL: Incumbents are responsible for providing instructional assistance in a classroom
setting. Incumbents may be responsible for translating oral and written communications. Incumbents may be responsible for K-2 intervention groups. Incumbents will work 7:00 a.m. -3:30 p.m. as part of duties will be the before school care program.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience (position requirements at entry):
• High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.),
• An AA Degree or 60 college hours or pass the Paraprofessional Test Preferred.

 

Reports To: Varies

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists teacher by helping with classroom instruction, small group instruction and working with children during instructional activities.
2. Monitors children’s behavior inside and outside of the classroom.
3. Assists with clean-up and other related tasks following daily activates.
4. Prepares classroom for activities, including organizing assignments and preparing homework folders.
5. Creates bulletin boards, maintains materials and supplies, contacts parents and may make
copies.
6. May attend in-service training sessions.
7. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.


8. Positions assigned to the computer lab may be responsible for:
• Setting up computer lab;
• Scheduling classes and activities for the computer lab;
• Assisting students in using computers and handling disks.


9. Positions assigned to English as a Second Language (ESL) may be responsible for:
• Translating oral and written communications;
• Administering and grading a variety of tests;
• Assisting students with limited or no English skills.


10. Positions assigned to the library may be responsible for:
• Shelving books;
• Assisting students with book selections;
• Checking books in and out of the library;
• Repairing damaged books.


11. Positions assigned to K-2 may be responsible for:
• Before school care starting at 7:00 a.m.
• Administering and grading a variety of tests;
• Working with students in K-2 intervention groups;
• Helping during lunch/recess to monitor students.


12. Positions assigned to PE may be responsible for:
• Setting up activities related to physical education;
• Assisting students in performing physical activities;
• Assisting in evaluating students' proficiency in designated activities.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
• Basic reading, writing and mathematical skills;
• Monitoring and assisting children with activities;
• Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. Sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Employment is for 8 hour, nine months
